What Are Non-Penetrating Guardrails?
Guardrails provide a ‘passive’ form of fall protection from exposed edges. Non-penetrating guardrails are self-supporting and can be moved from one location to another as required. The passive design of this system allows the end user an unlimited number of users in the work area.

OSHA-Compliant Non-Penetrating Guardrails
We can design and create OSHA-compliant guardrails for mezzanines, loading docks, roof edges, skylights, and hatch fall protection. The non-penetrating design allows for installation without making any holes in the floor mounting surface saving time and money, while still being safe. In addition, our steel and aluminum guardrails can be applied to a wide number of different roof shapes and sizes.
MOBILITY
Now you can have fall protection when and where you want it. The non-penetrating steel guardrail system is portable and can be dismantled/assembled as the need arises. For even greater convenience we can also provide the handy transporter.
FLEXIBILITY
The non-penetrating steel guardrail systems are versatile and can easily be configured to your specific needs. The base can accommodate up to four rails and toe plates if needed.
OVERHEAD PROTECTION
In elevated situations where there is a danger of kicking something onto someone below, OSHA requires the use of a 2x4-sized toe board between the bases. The bases of the non-penetrating steel guardrails can be retrofitted with our custom toe boards.
SLIP RESISTANT
The base plates can be equipped with non-slip pads. The optional pads keep the base from slipping on smooth surfaces like concrete or metal. Pads also help cushion base on sensitive materials like rubber roofing.
CORROSION RESISTANT
This system comes standard with a powder-coated paint finish to provide resistance against weather elements. As an option, galvanized finish is also available.
CUSTOM ORDERS
We can provide custom engineering and fabrication for your special needs if our standard non-penetrating steel guardrail does not meet your needs.
PEACE OF MIND
We use pins with positive locks on our guardrail bases instead of set screws. This approach allows you to visually inspect the system after assembly and be confident that it is ready for use.
Permanently Installed Guardrails
Permanent guardrails are a safety element for any pedestrian or employee walking in a potentially hazardous area or working on construction – and are most likely a state requirement for any danger-prone work area. Regardless of whether or not it is a state law for the permanent guardrail system to be installed, it is extremely important to provide safety for everyone. Not only will you be confident that you are protecting workers in the area, but it also helps reduce the chance of any potential lawsuits from not having the safety guardrail installed. It is a short, simple task to do, and as soon as one of our guardrail systems is put into place, you instantly improve the quality of security – and work – on the property.

Permanent systems are designed to remain in place for a period of years or for the life of the building. They are used in areas such as where rooftop HVAC or communications equipment is located near a roof edge, requiring maintenance and other personnel to access the area on a periodic basis. It would be impractical to re-install portable railings every time maintenance access is required, so a permanent system would be left in place.
